From the Costume Coordinator

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for continuing to text and email me regarding costumes.  If I didn't get back to you last week, please try again.  It was the first week of school and this teacher is still catching up!

The costumes are really coming together!  I love seeing what everyone has found--this will be such a great show.  There are still a few of you that I have not yet heard from for costume approval.  Please remember the deadline to show me pictures of costumes is this Wednesday, September 2nd.  I will be there at the beginning of rehearsal during drop off if you would like to bring any items to the theatre for me to see, or you can text/email me with your photos.  Be sure you have your main costume as well as the off night spider costume.

Next Saturday, September 5th, we will need ALL cast members to come to PCT during the scheduled rehearsal time in costume, hair and makeup to have their photo taken.  If your child is not called for rehearsal, you do not have to stay once his/her photo is taken.  Please sign up ASAP using the SignUp Genius below.

If you have any questions regarding next Saturday, feel free to email me at jenny.dowen1@gmail.com

Thanks!

Note from Set Design Coordinator

Hi everyone.

Our set build just a little more than 2 weeks away.  Can you believe it?

In preparation, I need to know if anyone can help with a couple of things.

1.)  Who are our artists that can help with some of the detail drawing and design work?

2.) Does anyone have access to any old wooden fencing or flooring?  Something that might look like the walls of a barn.

Don't forget our set build is Sunday, September 13th at 1PM.  I know it's opening Sunday for the NFL, but the Cowboys don't play until 7:30, so you're good.

I am looking forward to meeting and working with you.

Thank you!
Stuart Mullins

The volunteer sign up is now available www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0C4CADA62DA2F94-charlottes

This includes: backstage volunteer, bringing food to your child, helping with a costume change, dressing room volunteer, lights & sound http://pctcharlottesweb.blogspot.com/p/backstage.html

Rehearsal Schedule Update
Our next rehearsal is not until Saturday 8/22. Actors, please make sure you are taking time to memorizing lines and blocking. Also, we will have to reschedule our rehearsal on Saturday, 8/29. There is no space to rehearse at PCT on 8/29. Ms. Becca is still looking into a date to reschedule.  I will post an update as soon as I know the new date/time.

Playbill
Email Deena your actor’s bios and head shot at dline_harvanek@yahoo.com. The headshot doesn’t have to be professional. It can be a school picture or a picture you have taken. Bios and headshots are due by 9/2. She will also be collecting applause ads, more details to be posted.

Continue emailing or texting your costume pictures to Jenny. I've seen some great costumes so far.  If you purchase anything, please leave tags on until they are approved. The approval for all costumes is needed by Wednesday, 9/2. We will have our costume parade/pictures on Saturday, 9/5 from 9:30 to 11:30am. More details coming soon.

Blog Comments
Don’t forget if you have question you can ask it as a comment on the blog. Your question might be someone else’s question. Of course, you can always email me directly.

Rehearsal
Please have your actor review the pages that are on the schedule before coming to rehearsal. They don’t need to be memorized yet, but they should be familiar with their lines and the scene we are covering. Actors need to bring a pencil to every rehearsal to write down their blocking notes. Most of the time we won’t go back over the pages we cover each week for several weeks. When we go over the pages again they should already know their blocking. It is very important that your kids attend rehearsals, and if they have a conflict please let me know.  Your child is really going to have to rely on their doubles to catch up when a rehearsal is missed. Also, remember to bring water/snack and to wear comfortable shoes (no open toed shoes, flip flops or crocs).

Ticket Pre-Order Update

If you have not turned in your ticket pre-order,  please contact Shelly warren_shelly@sbcglobal.net  ASAP. Ticket will be going online tomorrow (Friday 8/14) and we don't want it to sell out before you have had a chance to at least purchase your required tickets and request your comps. Once a show is sold out, you will no longer be able to request comps for that show.

Shelly will be keeping an eye on ticket sells and shows will get pulled off line once they get close to sold out. There will be waiting list for each show. If you need tickets for a show please contact Shelly. Also, if you end up with extra tickets for a show, please let Shelly know so that she can switch them out. We would like to have all ticket swaps go through Shelly to eliminate all the ticket emails.

Please let Shelly or myself know if you have any questions.

Costumes!

Please see the information below regarding costumes. I tried to be as detailed as possible for you, but if there is something that seems confusing, do not hesitate to ask for clarification.  If you have any questions, please email me at jenny.dowen1@gmail.com.  I will email my cell phone number out to everyone as well.  If you are out shopping and want to check on a potential costume, please feel free to shoot me a text for approval.  All costumes must be approved by me no later than September 2nd.  If you are ordering something or renting it, please check with me before confirming a payment!

We will have a costume parade and photography session for the actors on Saturday, September 5th during the rehearsal time.  I will send more information about that at another time.  However, if anyone has a quality camera and/or photography experience and would be willing to volunteer his/her time, let me know!

Pinterest
I have posted quite a few inspiration pictures on Pinterest  https://www.pinterest.com/charitymom/charlottes-web-production/.  You can use it as a starting point for building the costume.  I posted an example for various specific characters, but there is more on the Pinterest board for you to use.   Feel free to follow the board and send me things you find as well.

Animals
For all animals in the show, Miss Becca is not looking for a full farm animal costume.  It is more the hint of animal.  No noses!  Some tails with animals such a Templeton or the Rabbit (3rd Member).  She would like more modern styles for animals.  Dresses, skinny jeans or leggings, in the color scheme is great.  Subtle face makeup is ok where appropriate as well.

Farmers and Family
These outfits will not be modern as the animal costumes are.  They should be a more vintage look from the 1950s farming times.
Arable Family--cool colors such as greens and blues
Zuckerman Family, including Lurvy--warm colors such as reds and oranges

Off Night
The decision was made that kids will participate on their off nights (when they do not have a conflict) at the end of the show when Charlotte's baby spiders are born.  We will have a spider dance!  She would like all black with long sleeves.
For the girls--dresses or skirts with black leggings, long sleeve black shirts or black cardigan over short sleeve.  Black ballet flats
For the boys--Black button up dress shirt, black pants and dress shoes.

Costume Rentals
Some PCT/MYT/FYT productions have recently started using a company called The Backstage Closet for costume rentals.  I know some families are using it for McKinney's upcoming Music Man.  If you do not want to purchase a costume, this is a possible option for you.  You can have to call and book an appointment to see them.  I have not personally used them, but my girlfriend did for Music Man and said it was very convenient and not too high priced.  You can visit their FB page for more information  https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Backstage-Closet/1559257860970251.
Please notify me if you are going to make an appointment so I can have my phone available via text to help you check out costumes.

Costumes by Characters

Wilbur--All pink.  Not hot pink--think Pepto color or lighter.  Two toned pink baseball shirt, pink skinny jeans, pink converse.  No snout.  Pink ears attached to a ball cap.  For initial inspiration, see this picture https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309212/

Charlotte--Charlotte should be fierce.  Not sexy, but beautiful and bold.  She needs to be able to be fluid in movements as she will be moving quite a bit.  Miss Becca likes goth jackets like this one https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696310616/ or a military style jacket such as this one  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309198/.
Black leggings and black shoes.  Actor can choose a veil, headpiece, or eye makeup as a part of it.  Not all three together though.  See Pinterest board for various ideas.

Templeton--Templeton is the lazy, fat slob!  She would like a hobo look (think 1930s, Great Depression).  Gray pants and vest.  Black or gray open fingered gloves, gray newsboy style hat, black or gray Converse.  Patches on the pants can be different colors.  Ratty, white button up shirt under the vest.  Make the shirt look dirty--Templeton is not put together.  Padded in the stomach to make him a little fat.  Use this picture as a starting point for inspiration https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309312/ Tail needed for Templeton!

Fern--Classic overalls with green gingham (first choice) or plaid shirt. Braided low pigtails.  No bows in hair; Fern is more of a tomboy.  Basic Keds or similar type shoes.  Target has them for not very expensive.

Mrs. Arable & Edith--1950s farmers wife.  Button down style shirt dress such as this https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696310620/ or  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309272/ Greens or blues for Mrs. Arable to coordinate with Arable family.  Red or orange for Edith to coordinate with Zuckerman.  White apron over the dress.  Lace up brown boots.

Mr. Arable & Homer Zuckerman--Dress shirt and suspenders with brown or khaki pants.  Work boots.  Red or orange shirt for Homer.  Blue or Green shirt for Mr. Arable.  Farmer inspiration https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696310669/.  Overalls are an option only if you cannot find suspenders.  We want them to look a little older than Lurvy.

Lurvy--As Lurvy works for the Zuckermans, his color tones should be the same.  He is the workman, so needs brown work boots, overalls and a shirt.  Can be short sleeves.

Avery--Same color tones as the Arables.  Basic jeans and striped shirt t-shirt (not a polo).  Sneakers such as Keds style.

Members--The members will be different animals in the show.  They are also our announcers.  We will use the plastic boater hats that PCT has to distinguish them as the announcers but not change the rest of their costumes.  Whatever they have for ears need to be easily removed to wear the boater hats.  All three members need a brown sports coat to put on over their costume for the announcer.

1st Member--A simple black cat.  Ears.  Black skinny jeans and a black jacket with ears such as this outfit https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309192/.  Black dress or skirt with black top work as well.  Simple cat ears or a beanie cap with ears.  Black ballet flats.

2nd Member--A brown farm dog.  Brown jumper dress or plain cotton brown dress.  Pants or skirt with a brown sweater.  Can be more than one shade of brown to give color difference.  Dog ears that are not cartoonish.  Brown flat shoes or brown sneakers such as Keds.

3rd Member--A white rabbit with cotton ball tail.  White dress/skirt with top or pants and shirt.  Floppy white ears (can have the pink inside them).  White sneakers such as Keds.

Goose--Yellow Dress with orange stockings or leggings.  Pink up the butt with a little tulle in the back underneath to give the larger tail end of the goose.  Can have a little feathers in a hat or on costume.  Brown ballet flats.  She likes this style of dress with NO bloomers  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309204/
Goose will change into the Fairgoer.  Vintage 50s dress such as what Mrs. Arable and Edith are wearing.

Gander--Needs to look similar to Goose.  Yellow vest and bowtie.  Brown dress shoes, khaki pants (no knickers as in the picture above.  Use picture solely for top part).  Boater hat with white or yellow feathers.

Sheep & Lamb--We love this look for the Sheep and Lamb  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/260223684696309327/.  The sheep needs to be white pom poms with the black underneath (as pictured in the link).  The Lamb should be the opposite with mainly black and white underneath.  For the boy version of this--just do a shirt and then basic black or white pants.  Black shoes such as ballet flats or Mary Jane's for both.  Black dress shoes for boy's version.

Uncle--Uncle is kind of the fat version of Wilbur.  All pink (pale or light pink please, not hot pink).  Pink sweatpants and pink hoodie or sweatshirt that can all be stuffed to give a fat belly.  Ears are fine only if can be removed easily.

Reporter/Spectator/1st Fairgoer--Same style for all three.  Brown (preferred) or gray suit coat or brown vest with white shirt.  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/454722893597746265/
Fedora Press hat to put on as the reporter.

Photographer--Same as reporter

1st & 2nd Spider--Same as off night spider outfits listed above.
